Erica Jong was born Erica Mann in New York City, U.S.A. 26 March 1942
Novelist, satirist, and poet. In 1973 published novel Fear of Flying. This was controversial at the time for its attitudes towards female sexuality. The book greatly helped the advancement of feminism and sold 20 million copies worldwide.

Chief Seattle was a Suquamish and Duwamish chief.
Born about 1780 at Blake Island he died 7th June 1866 (aged 85–86) at Port Madison, Washington
He pursued a path of friendship to white settlers promoting ecological responsibility and respect of Native Americans’ land rights.
The city of Seattle, Washington, USA was named after him.
In 1908 a bronze statue of Chief Noah Sealth (Chief Seattle) was erected in Tilikum Place, Seattle.
5. T. S. Eliot

Known as T.S. Eliot, Thomas Stearns Eliot was born in St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.A on 26 September 1888.
He was a poet, playwright, literary critic and editor.
He moved to UK with his family in 1914 later giving up his US Citizenship in 1927 at the age 39.
In 1948 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in Literature for his outstanding contribution to poetry.
He died 4th January 1965 in London, England.
6. Shakespeare

William Shakespeare was born 23rd April 1564 in and raised in Stratford Upon Avon UK. He died also 23 April 1616. He is reputedly one of the greatest English playwrights, poet and actor. Often called England’s national poet and the “Bard of Avon” (or “the Bard”).
He is attributed to writing 39 plays, 154 sonnets, three long narrative poems, and other verses. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright.

Hans Christian Andersen was born in Odense Denmark 2nd April 1805 and died aged 70 in Copenhagen on 4th August 1875.
He wrote many plays, travelogues, novels, and poems and is mostly remembered for his literary fairy tales.
These fairy tales consist of 156 stories across nine volumes and have been translated into more than 125 languages.
Not only for children many adults may not readily realise the message they also carry for mature readers of virtue and resilience in the face of adversity.
